21 antique tractors and an assortment of one, two and three-bottom plows
turn over 40 acres the old-fashioned way!
The weather was uncertain and the price of fuel was over two dollars per gallon, but 21 antique tractors appeared at Ed Moore's Ashley farm on the morning of Sunday, April 19th to plow a 40 acre bean field.
Pickup Trucks pulling trailers loaded down with their tractors and one, two and three-bottom plows began arriving and unloading around 9:00 that morning. A couple of rows were started and the Annual Spring Plow Day of the Morrow County Antique Tractor & Equipment Association Inc., had begun.
The plowing continued until about 1:00 when everyone took a break to stretch their legs, visit and share in a potluck lunch with the Association providing the brats, burgers and drinks. Then the plowing began again. By 3:30 the 40 acres were freshly plowed, it had begun sprinkling, and the last of the tractors were being loaded up for the trip home.
In addition to the 21 tractors, at least 50 people and four dogs showed up just to watch and reminisce about old-time farming, one of the dogs actually riding on a tractor. The Association was very pleased with the number of those who attended this annual event and would like to thank the several members of the Centerburg Oldtime Farming Festival who participated, Jeremy and Jennifer Wensink, who brought two tractors all the way from Bowling Green, Ohio and Mark Wensink, of Shearer Equipment, who brought a John Deere Gator the the photographer to run up and down the field with getting photos. Many thanks also to our host, Ed Moore, and our grill cooks, Dick Poland and Judy Moore.
This Annual Spring Plow Day, arranged by the Morrow County Antique Tractor & Equipment Association, Inc. each year, is just one of the many yearly activities and events that the Association participates in, including area parades, an Association Picnic each June, an Annual Fall Plow Day, an Association Christmas Party, and of course the Annual Farm Days Show held at the Morrow County Fairgrounds in August, followed by the Annual Tractor Drive. Association membership is open to anyone who would like to join.
